I wrote Tropical Climes on a beach vacation I felt like I didn't deserve. I had been living in a rent-controlled room in the village sipping my two-drink minimums and collecting unemployment when I was invited on a trip to Tulum with my girlfriend's family. Everything was so beautiful and I genuinely loved the people but I couldn't shake the feeling that I was what didn't belong. So the last night, under a big silver moon, I snuck out to the adobe pool shower with my guitar. I had just started listening to Elliott Smith and I had this chord progression I strummed against the moaning wind, "She's fine, she's fine, she's fine without you…"

This song is the first release in a series called Singles From Landladyland, built out of songs produced by Adam Schatz. It’s an excuse for Schatz to work with artists he loves without having to tackle an entire album that people don’t listen to in 2019 anyhow. He loves this song and so should you.
lyrics
We acquiesce when we don't know what to do
We reminisce till our memory turns blue
God bless these tropical climes
Two ton tequila and limes oh yeah
That's how it is when you're a ward of the state
A full grown kid and you still can't relate
Please coach put me back in the game
Kid can't you see that one whole side has gone lame
But she's fine
We sit in chairs with our backs to the beach
We do repairs with Gabrielle and Luis
But we don't worry no more
Won't throw these clothes on the floor I swear
But she's fine
She's fine without you
