The only thing I really feel needs saying about this track is that the very end has one of the great studio synchronicities I've ever ever experienced. We made this whole song and got all the way to mixing without anything to end it with. I knew someone had to rip a big solo but who? Guitar? Naw. Sax? Maybe.
At the last minute we invited Jake Pinto to the actual mixing session. He had this broken Moog synth, he was like "Wait'll you get a load of this, it barely works at all it's AMAZING!" And we spent about two hours doing a hundred takes of the solo and then another two hours after he left trying to edit it into something. We got it all kind of built out but we couldn't figure out anything to put over the end end when the whole band slows down.
It had been a long hairy day and I finally said to Jacob (who was mixing) "What if we just see what happens if we extend whatever is the last thing on the timeline" and there it was. The very last thing that the synth does that perfectly synchronizes with the band slowing down was played over a completely different section with different chords and feel. I like to think that Jake in his infinite wisdom divined the need for this exact musical phrase. Thank you, Jake.
lyrics
Pull the picture from your wall and be done with it if you want
What would mother say face to comfort let the candle burn
No more shit in the bedroom on the floor
Somehow always feels much barer than before
Dani girl
Don't you wonder why they never treat you good
Dani girl
Bettter not to fret than curse the dark
Finding favor in the faces that you meet
Everyone knows just what you should do but only if you have all that you need
